Whenever I go to the gym, (which admittedly, has not been often these days) I am glued to the TV screens to get my mind off the fact that I am thoroughly miserable on the elliptical machine.
The thing that gets me through my workout is reading the closed captioning on the screen. I swear, I just zone out on it.
Well, funny enough, this company named Rev is hiring captioners right now, to work from home transcribing the very shows that I probably watch at the gym.
See how it all comes full circle? (Kidding)
Rev offers work at home position for transcriptionists and online captioners.
Captioners are independent contractors, not employees, and the pay is .50-.75 cents per audio minute.
In order to make good-enough money, you will have to be able to type quickly and accurately, but as far as requirements go, that is basically all that you would need to worry about.
In order to see how complicated the application process was, I decided to apply myself, and am happy to report that the application process is very simple.
As long as you have a good 1-2 hours to dedicate to the application process, and if you can carefully follow the instructions given on the training documents and videos, you will be able to caption and edit a video yourself within an hour or two, and send in the captioning video to the company. (This video basically serves as your application).
Every step of the process will be explained carefully to you, and there are tabs that you can click on if you require help from the company to complete any step you're unsure of.
It took me about 20 minutes to transcribe (caption) a 1 minute and 45 second video, so needless to say, I would need to be faster if I wanted to pursue this and make more than $3.00 per hour (lol).
But my problem is that I am bit of a perfectionist, which I would have to let go of in a job like this.
Just don't be like me!
