Online Transcription Jobs... Where can you find them?

Online transcription work (not to be confused with medical transcription!) can be one of the most sought after work at home opportunities out there.

And Why not?

On the surface, it can sound very appealing.

To many people, this type of home based work means:

No selling

No phone work

Choosing your own schedule

So are Transcription Jobs too good to be true?

In many cases, They are too good to be true so...

When should you be wary?

The answer to that is simple:

You should be wary when you are asked to pay a "fee" to be directed to companies that pay for this kind of work.

Remember that (with a few exceptions)you should not have to pay for transcription jobs, the companies should pay you!

With a little digging on the internet, you can find this information, all on your own, for free!

Not to mention, you can find it here too! Just look below!

But back to the original question, which was whether online transcription work is too good to be true, the answer is:

Absolutely not!

There are legitimate transcription companies that hire quick and efficient transcribers!

So what are the requirements to work for these companies?

Good knowledge of the English language

Excellent grammar and spelling skills

Ability to type quickly. ( I would say at least 65 words per minute and the faster, the better!)

Good knowledge of basic computer skills

When applying with any of the companies that you see listed below, be aware that they will be testing you on many of the above skills.

For example, they may give you a timed test in which they wish to see how quickly and accurately you can type an essay that they present to you.

Another thing to know is that all of these companies ask that applicants go online to apply for positions instead of attempting to apply via the telephone.

What can you expect once you get hired?

Working in online transcription, you can either work as an :

Independent Contractor

Being an independent contractor , you will be responsible for witholding your own taxes as the company will not do this for you.

You can either be a "sole proprietor" which basically means that your business is run by you alone and as such, you are entitled to 100 percent of the profits and 100 percent of all debt, you do not share this with a partner.

Or you can work as an :

Employee of the company

(which means that you don't have to worry about setting aside payroll taxes and that you may may be eligible to receive benefits such as medical and dental insurance.)

You can check the company's website to find out more details.

Transcription duties may include:

Transcribing hand-written information.

Transcribing audio from a tape.

Transcribing live audio from a phone or video meeting.

Working under a deadline!

Working with speed and accuracy.

Two items you may need to work in transcription include:

A Transcription Machine

A Foot Pedal

Your salary can depend on how fast and efficient a typist you are and can vary anywhere from $5,000.00 a year to $50,000.00 a year .

In my opinion...

.... far and away the most fantastic benefit that you get from working in online transcription, is that it is a job that can be done from anywhere at all!
