But back to the original question, which was whether online transcription work is too good to be true, the answer is:
Absolutely not!
There are legitimate transcription companies that hire quick and efficient transcribers!
Good knowledge of the English language
Excellent grammar and spelling skills
Ability to type quickly. ( I would say at least 65 words per minute and the faster, the better!)
Good knowledge of basic computer skills
When applying with any of the companies that you see listed below, be aware that they will be testing you on many of the above skills.
For example, they may give you a timed test in which they wish to see how quickly and accurately you can type an essay that they present to you.
Another thing to know is that all of these companies ask that applicants go online to apply for positions instead of attempting to apply via the telephone.
Working in online transcription, you can either work as an :
Independent Contractor
Being an independent contractor , you will be responsible for witholding your own taxes as the company will not do this for you.
You can either be a "sole proprietor" which basically means that your business is run by you alone and as such, you are entitled to 100 percent of the profits and 100 percent of all debt, you do not share this with a partner.
Or you can work as an :
Employee of the company
(which means that you don't have to worry about setting aside payroll taxes and that you may may be eligible to receive benefits such as medical and dental insurance.)

Transcribing hand-written information.
Transcribing audio from a tape.
Transcribing live audio from a phone or video meeting.
Working under a deadline!
Working with speed and accuracy.

Your salary can depend on how fast and efficient a typist you are and can vary anywhere from $5,000.00 a year to $50,000.00 a year .
