HSN - and their work at home program

A review of the work at home program offered by HSN.

When I used to work for West at Home many moons ago, I remember many of my co-workers mentioning how much they wanted to get on the HSN project.

It seemed to pay well and it was better than the current project that we were all a part of, (which was the Direct Response project, see my page on West at Home for more on that).

I tried to get on that project but turnover was low.  Once a person got on the project, they were loathe to leave it!

I am not sure if West at Home still has HSN as one of their clients but regardless, you can now get hired on directly with this company rather than having to go through West at Home.

Here's some information on the work at home opportunity offered by this company, such as Pay and requirements:

Working for HSN..

Working for this company, you can expect that you will be working in the area of sales or customer service.

The sales positions start at $10 per hour and the customer service positions start at $11 per hour.

The calls are inbound, and you will be expected to do some upselling.  However, you are given a script to go by, which makes upselling much easier (in my opinion).

There are incentives given for performing well with your upsells.

Requirements

The company does have many technical requirements but before we get into that, it is important to note that they are only hiring in three cities:

St. Petersburg FL, Roanoke VA, and Nashville TN.

So, the job is home-based but you must live in or near one of these three cities.

As far as technical requirements, here they are below:

Windows XP (Service Pack 3), Windows Vista (Service Pack 2), Windows 7 or 8, Macintosh (OS X 10.6 or later)

Minimum Processor Type: Intel, AMD Athlon, AMD Duron, Celeron or Pentium III or better with a minimum processor speed of 1 GHZ (1000 MHz) and a minimum RAM of 1GB for both Windows XP and Windows Vista and Windows 7

500 MB minimum Free Disk Space

17" or larger color monitor capable of displaying a resolution of 1024 X 768

Headset compatible with your phone and connected to the phone

(They don't allow wireless headset/phones )

 High speed internet

Standard copper line phone service from a local phone company or a bundled service from your internet provider

Pay

The company states that their pay is competitive at a starting rate of $10 per hour for a sales position and $11 per hour for a customer service position.  For an entry level work at home position, I would say that this is a pretty good pay rate.

They offer paid training and paid time off, as well as incentives for doing well with upsells.

You may also be offered an employee discount and medical insurance , if you are working full-time.

My Take?

If you are seeking a way to make some extra part time income from home, and you happen to live in one of the three cities mentioned above, then I think HSN warrants a good look!

Be aware that there are background noise restrictions, so if you have young children at home, it may take a little more work to make this a good fit for your lifestyle, however, it can be done ( I did it for 8 years!)

But otherwise,  I think this is a good work from home opportunity.

Besides, how bad can it be to help other people shop, for a living, right?

Don't answer that.
