Etsy is a website for people who are interested in buying or selling handmade wares, vintage items or unique supplies to a worldwide audience.
If you have been looking for a way to earn extra money from home and you happen to be talented in an arts and crafts sort of way, then this may be a perfect way for you to do so!
It is free to join and it will only cost you .20 cents to list an item.
There is also a 3.5% transaction fee, payable only after the item sells.
The process is as follows:
List your item on the site for a .20 cent fee.
Shopper finds the item you are selling and pays you for it.
(I highly recommend using Paypal)
You are then responsible for shipping the item to your customer.
Pay the 3.5% sales transaction fee to the company.
How do you get your customers to your product page?
Well, the answer is that it is not easy but that doesn't mean it's impossible! You will have to promote, promote and then keep promoting your page!
One great way to do this is by using social media networks such as Facebook and Twitter.
On Facebook try making a "fan page" in relation to your Etsy store. Try using the "suggest to friends" feature , which is available on Facebook, so that your friends can become a "fan" of your store!
Whenever you add an item to your store, update your fan page status and make sure to link directly to your store so that your friends can go directly there from Facebook!
On Twitter, my suggestion is to start following people who are interested in the same types of products you are selling. If they start following you as well, they may start seeing any information you are posting in regards to your products.
So, don't forget to use Twitter when you post new items to your store, it may be an excellent way to get people to check out your products and hopefully , make some sales!
I suggest to start slowly, posting one item a day until you get the hang of it.
Renew your posts often. At least every couple of weeks so that your item is not at the bottom of the list but more towards the beginning of similar products being sold!
Take care when choosing your username, because this will also be your Shop name! Think carefully on it before you set it in stone because you will not be able to change it.
Why? Because shoppers will look at photos of the item you are selling more readily than the description of the item. So it's important that your photos look great!
Pick up some books on the subject of selling on this site. Studying and imitating the tricks that other successful sellers have used to build a thriving online business is a sure way to get some great ideas at the very least, and make lots of money at best! Amazon has a great collection of used books, which makes investing in your seller education much more affordable. Here are some books that I recommend:
Don't give up! If you're looking to list an item and have it sell quickly, most likely you will be disappointed. But if you are willing to give it some time and spread the news about your new business, you will see results. Persevere with it and most of all, enjoy it!
