Conversations Direct-  A review

I happened to stumble across this website named Conversations Direct a few days ago and I thought that I would share it with you.

As of right now they're only hiring 2 to 3 new teachers, but if you're really interested in this sort of opportunity, I would suggest to keep an eye on the site to see when they are hiring again.

Please note that the company requests that their applicants not call them, so please, only apply via the web site .

What kind of work would you be doing?

Basically, this company is looking for teachers who are good listeners and talkers.

Their clients are mostly from Japan and are looking to learn conversational English.

It seems like it would be a fun job and if you're looking to make just a little extra money on the side, then this might be the perfect job for you as they only offer part time work.

Conversations Direct is considered to be an adult conversation school, and so as such, you will not be expected to teach college level English, but rather you might be expected to teach recreational English or English for the purposes of passing an exam.

All teaching is done via Skype, which is a free program that you can download directly from the Internet.

Can you work from home?

 Yes!

Although the company is based out of Seattle, Washington, teachers are home based and can be located anywhere in the U.S.

As a teacher for this company, you'll be considered an independent contractor and you will be provided the necessary lesson plans so prep time is minimal.

Typically, when you are assigned a student, you'll be alerted at least 8 hours in advance.

The company's specifically looking for teachers who can work at least 5 hours a week and especially for teachers who can work during the following times:

Monday to Friday 6:00 AM to 10:00 AM Eastern time  3:00 AM to 7:00 AM Pacific time

Saturday to Sunday mornings during the same times as listed above

And

Friday evenings 8:00 PM to 1:00 AM Eastern time 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM Pacific time.

What are the requirements?

In order to work for this company, you should be a native English speaker with a clear and articulate speaking voice and a good grasp of proper English grammar.

You should have your bachelor's degree or be a university student with at least two years of schooling under your belt.

You need to have the proper equipment for the job: a Computer, Headset, high speed Internet and a web cam.

The company requires that you dress professionally during your teaching sessions and that you have a neutral background during your lesson.

It's really important that you're able to carry on a good conversation with people of all stripes and backgrounds.

Reliability is a must.

You'll need to film a short video introducing yourself to your students.

Is training provided to you?

Yes, the company does provide training.

The training does not appear to be paid so keep that in mind.  But the good news is that you don't have to pay for training!

Training will be done via an online video.  You can also expect to attend an online training session in Skype with a personal trainer and you will have at least two practice sessions with a couple of student volunteers.

My take on this job through Conversations Direct (for what it's worth!)

All in all, this sounds like a wonderful work from home opportunity for a few lucky teachers.

Remember that they're only hiring 2 to 3 new teachers right now, but that may change in the future so I would suggest to keep an eye on the site.

In the meantime, I wish you the best of luck!
