This week's e-book review is for :
by Maire Loughran and sells on Amazon for : $5.99 (kindle edition)
I was interested in picking up this book because I make handmade jewelry as a hobby and my mom keeps bugging me to sell my jewelry online. So I thought I would pick up a book on the topic just to get an idea of what would be involved.
The book was well organized with lots of helpful and detailed information on how to set up a home-based jewelry businesss, which is what I was looking for.
The author assumes that the reader already has some knowledge of making jewelry, so, in case you are wondering, this book is not a step by step instructional book on how to make jewelry. Neither does it offer a formula on how much to price your jewelty for.
Another curiosity is that it does not mention Etsy as a valid marketplace to sell your jewelry, which is odd considering Etsy is probably the most popular website for selling unique, handmade items such as jewelry.
However, it could be that this book was written before
the advent of Etsy, which is incredible to consider and also makes one
realize how quickly the internet world is shifting for Mom and Pop sellers.
book gives some good foundational basics in regards to all the little
details that go into starting a home based business such as licensing,
filing taxes, putting together a business plan, etc.
The book, rather than going into more intricate detail on these topics, leads the reader to where you can find more information on these topics.
In my opinion, this is not a bad thing, in fact, I believe that there is certainly no way to include every detail in starting a business in an e-book.
That is more conducive to a
training course or series of courses because there is usually so much information to cover.
But I found that for me, it answered my basic questions and gave me a pretty clear overview of this business model and whether it would work in my life.
In case you were wondering, I decided against starting a jewelry business for now. This business is not one to be started lightly and it would require a good amount of dedication and attention.
Do I recommend this book?
I certainly do, for those who are just starting out in this business. It seems like it would be a good book to give you a basic idea on what would be required to start a jewelry business from home.
